Description:
Tour begins with a personalized pick up from your hotel/ rendezvous point in Waikiki. Tour guide will explore the history between Japan, America, and the Western World beginning with the Mathew Perry Expedition in 1853. Travel in time as Japanese and American relations eb and flow before deterioration resulting in military conflict.
The visit to Pearl Harbor includes a film documenting the events leading up to and including the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces 7 DEC 1941, a riveting film including original footage from both Japanese and American archives and narrated by Stockard Channing (Rizzo from “Grease”). Upon a briefing by National Park Service Rangers, guests will board onto a pilot boat to be delivered to the Arizona Memorial, a structure spanning the fallen battleship memorializing the more than 2000 lives lost on Dec. 7, 1941.
Tour will include an opportunity for lunch at Restaurant 604 located on site. Prepaid lunch accommodations are recommended for efficiency.
After lunch will be spent onboard the USS Missouri, not only Americas last battleship, but the last battleship to sail for any navy. The USS Missouri is one of 4 IOWA class battleships and is the vessel that satisfied the stage for the signing of the Instruments of Surrender on 2 SEP 1945 by Japanese forces in Tokyo Bay Japan. We will explore the decks of this legend as we hear information delivered by the docents of the USS Missouri Memorial Association. After the docent led tour, we will spend about an hour climbing up to the Open Bridge where we will have access to amazing views of Pearl Harbor, the landscape of Oahu, and the Arizona Memorial. Finally we will make our way down to the surrender deck and learn about The signing of surrender by Japanese forces bringing a close to the war.
