Luis

Aloha,

My name is Luis, but I go by Lui. I’m a fourth-generation Portuguese descent, born and raised here in Oahu. My family was involved in the renowned Hawaiian sugar industry. My father, who served in the US Navy, met my mother while stationed at Pearl Harbor. Growing up along the shores of Pearl Harbor sparked my deep fascination with World War II Pacific history and the rich heritage of our beautiful island.

After my time in the Navy as a submariner, I earned a degree in U.S. History, focusing on the Pacific region. Having lived in Oahu, I’ve had the privilege of hearing firsthand accounts of significant events, including the attack on December 7, 1941, recounted by my grandfather, who was on base at that time.

As a passionate storyteller, I love sharing these narratives with those eager to learn, whether it’s exploring the events leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor or taking a trip to the famous North Shore to uncover the island's history.

Join me to hear these captivating stories.
